Splicing Optical Platform

Splicing Optical Platform
Product Description

The customized optical stage has multiple sections on the top of the platform, with a maximum size of 1.5 meters x 4.8 meters (5 feet x 16 feet). Complex beam paths often require larger dimensions, which can be achieved by installing the top. To achieve the intended result, couplings must not affect the stiffness, damping, or flatness of the joints.

Rigid connections between optical platforms are provided by welding our proprietary system of precision-ground and aligned splice plates to the structural elements of the top. The unique process includes alignment techniques that ensure the top maintains the specified flatness without warping due to the thermal effects of welding the bonding plates to the top.

The design is modular, allowing the top to be supported individually or in a connected state.

The splice wall platform configuration can be used in combination with the top.

Product Performance
After splicing, the platform functions as a single integrated structure. As with all large structures, the behavior of a larger spliced system will differ from that of a single top.

Splice platform technology ensures flatness between multiple tops. The mating plate is a set of precisely ground matching steels with a set of locating pins to maintain alignment. These plates are welded to the top and bottom skins along the entire length of the splice plate. After assembly, the splice plate is covered with a stainless steel band.

The standard material for the splice plate is steel. A non-magnetic version for optical tops is typically connected to a 304 stainless steel splice plate.

In wall platform configurations with multiple connectors, each connector is a matched set, and tops are not interchangeable. If you anticipate needing additional splice sections in the future, the 'splice later' option can be used.
